Sensory-Friendly Events to Kick Off the New School Year!

School is almost back in session and there are several events in the area aimed at providing sensory-friendly environments and experiences for individuals. Whether you want to make your very own sensory bottle or enjoy a calming day at a museum, there’s something for everyone.

1. Make a Back to School I-Spy Sensory Bottle

Are you prepared to craft the most incredible sensory bottle? Join our back-to-school workshop and design a distinctive, vibrant sensory bottle that’s bound to be the talk of your class! A fun, FREE event suitable for all ages. Do remember, it’s a first-come, first-serve event and supplies are limited.
2. Sensory Playdate at The Cowboy
Date: August 15, 2023
Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Need a break from the galleries? Head over for a sensory-friendly playtime. From learning a Western dance to creating your very own soothing waterfall noisemaker, it’s a day of fun and exploration. Plus, enjoy some refreshments for attendees of all ages. The event is free for Museum members or with Museum admission.

3. Sensory Friendly Tuesday Tales

Location: Animal Protective Association/APA Adoption Center, 1705 South Hanley Road, Brentwood, MO 63144
Specially curated for our youngest learners (ages 2-5), this monthly storytime is designed to be calm and engaging. Listen to enchanting stories, engage with a furry friend, receive a pet-themed craft to take home, and discover more about the APA!
4. Sensory-Friendly Programs at the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP)
Date: Saturday, August 26, 2023
Time: 8:00 am – 10:00 am
Location: MoPOP
MoPOP opens its doors for a special Sensory-Friendly Program, a unique opportunity to experience the museum in a serene environment with adjusted light and sound levels. This initiative is open to all who can benefit from a subdued sensory museum environment. The event is free when the museum is closed to the public.
As the new school year approaches, these events offer a fabulous way to get involved and enjoy sensory-friendly environments. Whether you’re into arts and crafts, museums, or storytime, there’s something on this list for everyone!
